Within my pseudonym I have written post about a number of different
types of advertisements including, commercials, billboards, and advertising
strategies amongst companies. Most recently I did a wiki entry on gun advertisements
in the mid to late 1900’s. I enjoyed writing this more than any of my previous
post. This wiki entry allowed me to translate my passion for history and imagery
into writing that has present relevance in today’s society. On the contrary, my
original idea for my pseudonym was to write more inclusively about
advertisements both past and present. Which still has relevance, but it is
harder to identity because it is still happening. I am satisfied with the my
blog’s tone as well as my “Contently Voice” pseudonym however moving forward with
my online presence I will not focus on present day advertisements.
I found myself learning more about American culture in the
“gun fun” post than all the post before.
This is accredited to the fact that the effects of present day ad’s are
still happening. It reminds me of the line in the movie “Social Network”, “ “trying
to end the party before you know what it is”.
In laming terms, I felt like with contemporary post I was writing about
something that is not done developing, which is kind of tricky. In the wiki
entry post I imagined myself living in a time where guns were nationally
embraced and advertised about. It gave me goosebumps to read about yet that
same feeling ebbed my curiosity to go on. I wanted to know the who, what,
where, when, why and how. I started to
understand the culture of guns in America more objectively, because men, women,
and children grew up with the ideology guns were good. It gave me a different perspective,
which I still can appreciate. And with the history of advertising in this
country, I know there are thousands of more cases like this.
With this new focus of writing Contently Voice the pseudonym
and the blog will continue to represent one another. In the first six weeks of this coarse my
pseudonym’s purpose was to drive traffic to the blog. My pseudonym reflected
the same tone and ideology that existed on the blog page. The new challenge for my pseudonym will be to
reflect the shift in the writing on the blog and ultimately the blog’s
direction. Through my tweets, my follower will recognize the shift in the
content. This refocus in content will also be reflected on the blog. The
relationship between the blog and pseudonym will reinforce each other.
The reworks of past post will be a creative challenge. I am
looking forward to it, especially my bio, which I meet several challenges with.
It lacked a central focus, which a lot of readers picked up on. It was too much
information all over the place. As I
have rewritten and rewritten some more, I’ve learned you don’t need to say
everything, just one thing extremely clear. This is the evolved approach I am
taking moving into the next weeks.
I like the new direction you are going with this blog. I have to agree that your challenge will be not having to write everything about the topic, but conveying what is really important. That is a similar challenge for me. I feel like I write too much that readers may be thinking in their head, "Just get to the point already." But I think you are a solid writer and through your blog, I have learned a great deal about advertising. And I think it will only get better. I look forward to seeing where your new direction will take you!
ReplyDeleteI think you sell yourself short with regards to writing content about present day advertising events. I found many of your posts to be interesting and informative. But you should certainly move towards aspects of your subject matter that interests you. I'm sure the information we glean from your future posts about the past advertisements will have truths that can be applied to present advertising.
